What Our Council Partners Say About Us

Will Tuckley, Head of Policy & Executive Office, Croydon Council
DisabledGo have met the Council's aims and policy objectives and have been a pleasure to work with from the beginning. Their enthusiasm, professionalism and commitment to this initiative has been beyond question and we have been extremely impressed with all dealings that we have had with them.
James Oaten, Equalities and Disabilities Advisor, Aylesbury Vale District Council
Eighteen months down the line, the Council is really seeing the benefits... DisabledGo has proved a breath of fresh air. The pages are detailed and informative, and the whole site can be accessed by people with a wide range of disabilities... community involvement has been continuous... membership of the DisabledGo website has made life easier for the many residents and visitors.
Sam Howes, Deputy Chief Executive, Chichester District Council
I would like to thank you for all your hard work in developing this unique and comprehensive guide together for the Chichester area. The project has demonstrated how working in partnership could enhance its quality and success.... I would like to express our gratitude to your aftercare support since the launch of the guide.
Jan Finch, Director of Human Resources, North-East Lincolnshire Council
As Chair of North East Lincolnshire Council's Corporate Equalities Group I am delighted that we now have this incredible resource which gives people the information and confidence to get out and do what they want to do.
Ali Black, Policy Officer (Equality) The City of Edinburgh Council
The website has been well received and I know a lot of disabled people and disability organisations in the City have already been using it - even before the public launch - so I think this shows you can't stop a good idea.
Councillor Lynda Thorne, Cabinet Member, Cardiff City Council
I should like to reiterate the Council's support for this new initiative that will be a valuable source of information, not only for those living in the City, but also those wishing to visit the Capital City of Wales. The DisabledGo website will enable many more people to enjoy what Cardiff has to offer and to confidently access the wide range of facilities provided in the city.
Councillor Margaret Morgan-Owen, Deputy Leader of Aylesbury Vale District Council
We're delighted to sponsor the DisabledGo access guide to give residents and visitors detailed access information on pubs, shops, restaurants, theatres and leisure centres. We want Aylesbury Vale to be a community in which all individuals feel able to play a part and we believe that DisabledGo - Aylesbury Vale will help us achieve that aim.
Councillor Mary Reid, Executive Member for Participation and Communication, Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames
DisabledGo is a simple idea which has the potential to transform lives of disabled people. It will open up a whole new world of possibilities. This project will provide a significant boost to the local business community as disabled people are often deterred from going out by a lack of information.
Councillor Mark Harris, Executive Board, Leeds City Council
Leeds City Council's mission is to bring the benefits of a prosperous, vibrant and attractive city to all the people of Leeds. Clearly, our partnership with DisabledGo helps us to achieve this aim by giving disabled people the information they need to enjoy all that Leeds has to offer... this access guide will enable disabled people to make informed choices about Leeds' facilities and go out and about in the city with confidence.
Councillor Tony Arbour, Leader, Richmond Upon Thames Council
The idea for this project emerged from community and staff based groups, with whom we planned the borough's celebration of the European Year of Disabled People in December 2003. The groups felt there was a need to have a directory that provided accessible information to disabled people on how they can go out and enjoy the many services and venues that make up the rich cultural life of this borough.

This project with DisabledGo was ideal for doing that as well as opening up the borough to the much wider universe of disabled people worldwide... I encourage you to use this site to help you to go out and about in Richmond upon Thames whether it is for pleasure or business.
Councillor Vanessa Graham, Wandsworth Council Cabinet Member for Social Services
DisabledGo is a great new service for Wandsworth residents... It's a service that aims to ensure people with disabilities get the most out of life in Wandsworth - but it will also be welcomed by anyone who has difficulty getting around - from the elderly to young mums with prams.
Councillor Roger Lawrence, Leader of Wolverhampton City Council
The DisabledGo Access Guide is an excellent information web site which gives disabled people, their carers and relatives informed choices about facilities the City has to offer. This includes visitor accommodation, shopping, leisure activities, entertainment, eating out, obtaining services from the Council or other public and private organisations and companies.

I hope this site demonstrates our commitment to make Wolverhampton a place where all visitors and residents enjoy full participation in the activities available in the City irrespective of the nature of their disability.
Councillor Maggie Clay, Executive Member for Adult Services, Stockport Borough Council
This is an excellent new service for Stockport's residents. DisabledGo's detailed information will empower disabled people to check access to all kinds of places, and more easily to participate in everything that our borough has to offer.

The project will raise awareness among local businesses that a huge number of people are affected by access issues, and that becoming more accessible is all about providing better service to more customers.
Councillor John Cherry, Resources Portfolio Holder, Chichester District Council
Chichester District Council is delighted to have worked with DisabledGo to provide this guide to our area. We are committed to equality and to enabling our residents and visitors to explore the excellent facilities and the wide range of events that the district has to offer.
Councillor Navin Shah, Leader of Harrow Council, London Borough of Harrow
We recognise that almost 15% of the British population are registered disabled and as such are delighted with the DisabledGo initiative. DisabledGo's exciting web based facility is sure to make a great difference to disabled people who live in, work in, and visit Harrow, by providing them with the flexibility to make informed choices about facilities and amenities they wish to use.
Councillor Bill Hinds, Lead Member for Customer and Support Services, Salford City Council
We look forward to working with DisabledGo and other partners to develop this facility as we believe it has the potential to help make Salford an inclusive city where everyone has access to the facilities they would like to use.
Councillor Peter Loosemore, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Neighbourhoods, Wakefield Metropolitan District Council
It should not be the case that people who are limited by physical or sensory disabilities are prevented from participating fully in society and enjoying the many facilities on offer. Wakefield's inclusion in the DisableGo website will help to make their lives that much easier.

The information on this website will help people both inside and outside the district who are wanting to plan what should be straightforward outings such as a night out or a day shopping, but who have to take into account the accessibility aspect before they can do so.
Derrick Taylor, Corporate Communication Manager for Wakefield Metropolitan District Council (part of the Chief Executive's office, responsible for Access to Services, E Government, Web Access, GIS and Customer Services)
[DisabledGo were] able to provide valuable information about accessibility and facilities. They offer valuable knowledge, commitment, facilities and hosting of the information held on their web site, Disabled Go helped us carry out consultation with disabled people and groups in the district to which we had an excellent response. Dr. Gregory Burke the CX of Disabled Go personally provided valuable support during this process. The consultation group successfully identified a large number of locations from restaurants to pubs, cinemas to council buildings, leisure centres and much more, a thousand premises in all. Disabled Go provided independent inspection of the premises and placed the information on their web site in the timescales planned. We could not have been happier with the service.
Andy Young, Senior Transport Planner/Access Officer
I am writing to you to confirm how pleased we are with the DisabledGo website for Torbay. The information has brought undoubted benefits to visitors and holidaymakers, as well as residents... once again let me say how pleased we are with the site.
